Both the Jura E6 and E8 have their advantages and disadvantages.

The Jura E8 is a better option if you’re okay with the heavy price tag. It gives you more brewing capacity and connects to a Smart Connect app, allowing you more control over your coffee. You get two more levels of adjustable coffee strength and one more level of temperature control.

If you’re not up for paying the extra $800 and want something more lightweight, you can always go for the E6. Even though it doesn’t have as many options as the E8, it is a solid piece of machinery for its price.

It has a larger water tank capacity than the E8 and comes at a cheaper price tag. The E6 also has a more durable steel body—the E8 has a plastic body—but still weighs about 4.5 pounds less.

Finally, Jura has a reputation for putting out only the best coffee machines, so you can rest assured on both these models.

The Jura E8 defeats the Jura E6 regarding the features the machines provide.

Both the machines work to extract coffee in the same way, but the E8 features a double boiler and creates a lot more types of coffee. It also comes with two more levels of coffee strength and one more level of temperature control. I love this feature because it gives the Jura E8 an advantage over the E6, especially for people looking to make café-like drinks.

Jura E8 also comes with the new fine foam technology, which allows you to make microfoam for perfectly creamy coffee. The milk system operates with just a click, and the machine rinses itself automatically after each brew to prevent bitterness.

Additionally, the Jura E8 is compatible with your mobile through Wifi, which allows you to save your favorite recipes on the machine from anywhere.

Jura E8 vs. Jura E6: Things to Consider

Jura is the queen of super-automatic espresso machines and creates every product to ensure the best user experience. It can be challenging to choose between the finest machines of the brand: the E6 and E8. If you’re thinking of investing in one or the other, here’s what you need to consider.

Your Needs

Flat white on a glass

Both machines have their advantages and disadvantages, but what sets them apart is what your intended use for them. Do you need a sturdy coffee machine or one with many features for your home espresso bar?

The E6 is a very powerfully built machine, but the E8 comes with more features and options for drinks.

Brewing System

Two espressos serving and steaming hot

Jura machines come with the company’s famous Pre-Brew Aroma System. This system extracts the smell of the coffee even before brewing it.

The E6 and the E8 feature Jura’s signature PEP brewing system too. This system pushes water at low speed and regular intervals through the coffee grounds. As a result, the PEP brewing system extracts solid flavors and intense aromas from the coffee.

When operated together, these systems create the best smelling and most flavorful coffee for which the brand has become so well-known.

Appearance

Jura E8 Chrome

The Jura E8 features a plastic body with stunning aluminum accents but is built in more of a classic espresso-maker style. The E6, on the other hand, features a modern design made out of stainless steel with chrome accents and black highlights.

If you’re looking for a sleek machine that’ll fit every kitchen, go for the E6.

Price and Warranty

You should seriously consider your budget before purchasing any machine. Choose the E6 if you’re looking for a machine that’s easy on the pocket. There’s about an $800 difference between the two coffee makers.

Both machines have a warranty of 2 years or 6000 brewings, whichever comes first.

Maintenance

Jura puts in considerable effort to ensure that all of its machines are easy to clean. The E6 and E8 both come equipped with an automatic cleaning system

The machines prompt you to clean the system on the screen. All you have to do is empty the drip tray and coffee grounds from the machine. Then switch on the rinse, descale, and clean system. You’ll need to put in the Jura cleaning tablet, and the E8 will clean itself through a 25-minute cycle.

Differences between the Jura E6 and the E8

1. Programmed Drinks

The best part about buying a high-end coffee maker is that it allows you to make a lot of different types of coffee. Both the Jura E6 and E8 make all the classic espresso drinks.

Coffee shop menu

The E6 will enable you to make seven different specialties: espresso, latte macchiato, hot water, frappuccino, cappuccino, coffee, and milk foam. The E8, on the other hand, has 16 programmed specialties. It has all the drinks mentioned above, including latte, hot milk, ristretto, and flat white. On top of that, the machine has eight levels of pre-set coffee and six aroma options for you.

2. Grinder Settings

The E8 beats the E6 regarding grinder settings. With the E6, you get the five basic settings. These are fine, medium-fine, regular, medium-coarse, and coarse. The E8 doubles these and has a whopping ten ways you can grind your coffee. These are extra-fine, fine, medium-fine, regular, medium-coarse, coarse, extra-coarse, ultra-fine, steel-cut oats, and rice. Having many grinding options means you have much more control over your brew.

You’ll find the E8 equipped with an Aroma G3 grinder built with ceramic blades that disperse heat evenly and prevent the coffee from going bitter. Both of these machines grind the beans fresh before use, which gives the flavor an immense boost.

The E8 also has a by-pass doser that allows you to use pre-ground coffee for your brew. You won’t find this feature in the E6.

3. Milk Frothing System

Both the machines steam and froth milk, but the E8 allows you to control the steam to milk ratio using a knob. This feature allows you to choose the density of your milk and makes the frother compatible with different types of milk.

Additionally, the E6 has one spout for both the coffee and milk. You can only pour one at a time. The E8, on the other hand, has two spouts, one for coffee and one for milk. Both the machines use a Thermoblock heating system which makes you wait a minute between pouring your coffee and milk.

4. Extra Features

There’s no doubt about it; the E8 defeats the E6 by a mile regarding additional features. You get power-saving modes, a better cleaning system, and can even connect your E8 to your mobile app. The app lets you make coffee without touching the machine. The only condition is that you must link to the same wifi network as the machine.

Finally, you can prepare drinks with a single touch on the screen. The E6 is undoubtedly a good espresso machine, but it gives you none of these features.

Jura E6 vs. E8: The Verdict

You can expect nothing but the best from Jura’s coffee machines. The Jura E6 and E8 have been the biggest competitors since the E8 hit the market. However, you can’t help but admit that the E8 wins over the E6 regarding features.

You can use the machine with nothing more than a touch and get much more control over your brew. The E8 is the machine you need if you want something efficient.

However, if you’re looking for something that costs a little less, the E6 would be perfect. It may not have the fancy functions the E8 has, but it makes a fantastic cup of coffee.

4 thoughts on “Jura E6 vs. E8: A Detailed Comparison”

    • The Jura E8 is definitively pricey for most people! In my opinion, it offers solid features for the money. Overall, the E6 does the job pretty well, and you can save a lot of money and get a great super-automatic espresso machine.

  1. I am seriously considering the E6 or the EH. This was a very thorough review. I’m concerned about the fact that the E8 is made of plastic. Also, some people complained about the milk being. Only one style but it sounds from your review like there are multiple options for milk style. Can you please help also, on the E6, since there are only two temperature options, is the hot options, very hot? Lastly, I usually drink a Lungo, can I achieve that by making two espresso‘s into one cup? Or is the maximum size of coffee 5 ounces?

    • Thanks Jill. About milk frothing, both machines have a standard serving, without much customization capabilities. They use temperatures based on Jura’s standards. That’s not as hot as some users prefer, but these machines serve the milk before espresso when brewing a cappuccino or a latte, so they tend to give a good temperature for most people. For extra-hot coffee, these machines offer a “coffee” drink, which is basically an Americano, and they tend to be hotter than espresso. The E6 doesn’t have a lungo among its options. Yet, a double espresso could serve you well, depending on your palate. If you prefer a smoother drink, you might want to add a bit of hot water and stir it a bit. It isn’t exactly a lungo, but it’s the closest I can imagine using a super automatic.
